Park day

In honor of Finn & Gizmo's Park Day I wanted to show you around one of the parks near my house. This is called Hazel Abel Park. Hazel Abel was the first woman in Nebraska to serve in the U.S. Senate.  She was elected to complete the term of a Senator who had died in office.  She only served from Novermber 1954 - December 1954.  We don't know about her polictics, but she sure has a nice little park.

These are some old columns in the park.  The city just renovated the entire park...they kept some of the old things, like the columns and the black iron fence.

And they added some new things like this cute elephant sculpture.  They replaced all of the old (and dangerous looking) play structures and modernized things a bit. In the summer time there are beautiful flowers all around too.

This is me posing by the fountain.  The fountain is original to the park; when the warmer weather comes it will be filled with water and make lovely splooshy sounds.  When I was just a wee pup, mum brought me to this park on one of our walkies.  She picked me up and put me on the side of the fountain just like I am now, so she could take a picture...and then I fell in!  Yep, I just fell right into the water and mum had to fish me out.  Phew, I'm real glad she was close by because with my tiny puppy legs and my giant puppy head, I'm afraid I wouldn't have made it out by myself!

This is another neat old structure in the park.  Hazel Abel park is right in the middle of an old neighborhood and takes up about 1/4 of the city block...a small, but lovely treasure in my little Nebraska city.
Thanks for coming on a little tour with me!

  1. Edgar - What a great park. Mom lovs the elephant sculpture. I likes the fountain. Wow… you are quite the dare devil (swimming in the fountain when you were a wee little pup).
    Have a grrrrrrrrrrreat day.

  2. What a lovely park! It looks like there is lots of nice things to pee on too.

  3. It's nice how some towns take pride in themselves, nice little park there Edgar. Hey did they make you a permanent part of the park also. Loved the story about falling in the water!
