A Question From My Mum

I've agreed to let mum use my blog for the day. She is seeking the opinion of other Scottie peeps.

Edgar's mum here. I've been wondering, Scottie peeps, do your Scots cuddle much? From the blogs I've read and followed it seems to be a toss up of whether it's a breed characteristic to not be cuddly or whether it's an individual characteristic. Edgar is NOT a cuddler. He prefers to sit near me and often times if pet him or fuss over him he gets up and moves! The winter is nice because he will snuggle up to me when we go to bed to stay warm, but otherwise he's not too affectionate. Scottie thing or just an Edgar thing? What do you say? I love him to pieces either way, but you know, sometimes after a long day, a cuddle is just what a person needs!

  1. Pippen is not much of a snuggler either. She sometimes likes to sit on my lap, but she's the same as you Edgar! If I fuss over her too much she will get up so I try not to bother her because I like it when she sits on my lap! Jacque is the same, he doesn't really like to sit on laps or anything. He's a really sweetie though!

  2. We think it's a scottie thing. None of HER scotties--and there have been nine of them were snugglers. But as you say, they want to be NEAR, in the same room....and follow HER around. Bella has become more of a snuggler, but we think it's because she wants to make Roxy jealous.

  3. Ok,now Susie snuggles in bed at night, during the evening when she comes in for snacks, or during the nightly news she will put her front legs and body over Mom or Dads leg and gets her belly rubbed till going to bed, and if you quit she will stare at you.

Now Bites, not much for cuddles or snuggles, but he loves to sit in the chair with Dad and get his head and ears rubbed, In bed at night he just has to touch you as he lays by your calf.

  4. Ranger's Mom here. Ranger is not a cuddler either but lays down next to my feet in the evening. We have to grab him and force him to cuddle. He grins and bares it. We call them 'grab hugs'. Now… our last scottie Macguyer was a cuddler.

  5. I have lived with 4 Scottie's 3 have not cuddle they will be close. Even sleep in bed with me. Now they 4th will sit in the chair with me if I go and get him and he has to touch in bed. Scotties are very independent and they are not lap dogs. Just big dogs in very small body.

  6. Todd as you know is our first Scottie, and he's just like you describe Edgar. He loves to sleep at the foot of the bed, and loves his scratches and belly rubs in the morning, but then he's done, and it's time to be serious.

  7. I'm smarter than my peeps so I'll answer. I don't cuddle and that's that. Whaddya think I am, a sex object??? I've been fixed. Nevermind that, I stick close to them and keep them company and don't let anyone hurt them. I'd give up my life to save them, but I don't cuddle.

  8. Edgar and Braeden could be twins! He does exactly the same thing. Except when he wants his shoulders rubbed or he's melted into me at bedtime. And he can be very demanding about the shoulder rubs. It's always his decision. He will get up and walk away if he doesn't want to be touched. Seth, on the other hand, definitely has a cuddle side. In fact, if you don't watch out he will smother you with kisses. They are complete opposites.

  9. Scottie Thing!!! I do not cuddle with mom or dad. I will lay close by like on the back of the couch. I hate it when mom forces her love on me and holds me against my will. At night I sleep above my mom's head in bed, not between her and dad as they would like. The only time I will lay in my mom's lap is when there is a fly in the house.

    Aroo to you,
    Sully

  11. She says I am the cuddliest Scottie she's known... But granted, I'm only the third she's known... The first passed away when she was a little girl (she doesn't remember much of him) and Uncle Fergus was NOT a cuddler... So... Ummm... That doesn't really help at all does it.

But, when she says I'm cuddly, I give the occasional snuggle, on MY terms, and it doesn't usually last long (well, long enough for her...)

  12. My first two Scots were cuddlers but Sweet William was not a cuddler at all till this winter. Maybe I am hoping with spring he will continue to want to be close.
    Thanks for being a friend

  14. It's a Scottie thing. No, I mean a Stuart thing. Edgar is not alone in this. I sit oh so close, but don't come after me unless I show you the belly. Then, you can have at it all you want. When I'm done, though, I'm done. No more.

I don't cuddle, but I do sleep with the peeps and snuggle with Them.

Come to think of it, I'm actually pretty snotty. Stuart, the Snotty Scottie. Yep. That's me!

    ArOOOOOO, Stuart
